IMI Level 2 Awards in MOT Testing – DVSA MOT Tester –  MOT Tester qualification

Course Overview

To pass this Level 2 Award in MOT Testing for Class 4 & 7 and gain your MOT qualification, you will be need to successfully complete both a practical and theory online assessment.

This 4-day course covers the 5 modules that make up the course criteria as set by the DVSA.

  1. working safely within a vehicle test centre
  2. communicating with colleagues and customers
  3. how to manage and maintain their CPD
  4. carrying out pre-test checks
  5. carrying out an MOT test.

During the 4 days you are with our experienced trainer you will develop the knowledge and skills required for MOT Testing in Class 4 & 7.

After completion of the MOT Tester course you will be able to safely work in a vehicle test centre, manage relationships, understand professional development and you will gain knowledge of how to carry out pre-test checks and carry out MOT tests. Once you have you have passed the final stage of your MOT Tester Training, the VT8 practical observation, you will be a nominated tester and gain your MOT qualification.

We are the only* Bucks based MOT training centre to offer Level 2 MOT Tester Training – Class 4&7, Level 3 MOT Manager Training and Annual Training and Assessment for current testers and we are here to help.

 

We know that you are here either because you yourself need to become an MOT Tester or you need to create one for your business.  There can be several reasons – you may be setting up a new MOT test station, you may need to replace an existing tester or you may be looking at changing your career path.

Setting up a new test station is exciting but can also be a stressful time with deadlines to meet and DVSA criteria/inspections to satisfy.  Of course, replacing a tester can be equally stressful depending on the circumstances.  So we do realise that you could be feeling tense and concerned about how to go about this task.

It is our job to make this process as quick, simple, straightforward and pain free as possible. You are in the right place, we can help you.  And if you are not feeling stressed/worried then that’s OK, we can still help!

Entry Requirements

To be eligible to take the qualification to become an MOT Tester, a learner must:

  1. have a current and full UK driving licence for the vehicle classes they want to test
  2. be a skilled mechanic with at least 4 years full-time employment in the service and repair of the vehicle types to be tested. (Apprentices who have been employed for 4 years are eligible.)
  3. Hold a relevant Level 3 qualification
  4. have no unspent convictions for criminal offences connected with the MOT testing scheme or the motor trade, or involving acts of violence or intimidation
  5. be ‘of good repute’.

The content of these qualifications has been designed to reflect the contents of the National Occupational Standards for MOT Testers.

The content of the qualification includes –

  4. carrying out pre-test checks
  5. and carrying out an MOT test.

What will you achieve?

When you have completed the Level 2 MOT Tester course you will be able to safely work in a Vehicle Test Centre, manage working relationships, understand professional development and have the practical knowledge to enable you to carry our pre-test checks and MOT tests.

You will become a fully qualified MOT tester when you have passed the VT8 practical observation in your workplace.

Qualified testers are required to take annual CPD training and assessment.  Failure to do so will see their tester status withdrawn.
